We are Pick It Up Fitness.

Why is our gym is called Pick It Up?

So glad you asked! 🙂

One day Matt came across a penny that was very old and very rusted. He picked it up and put it in his pocket because no matter how ugly and scraped up the penny was, it still had value.

That penny burned a hole in his pocket and heart. It became a tangible reminder that no matter what had happened in the past, no matter what scars he may bare or how broken he may feel, he still holds immense value and is worthy of love.

One ordinary moment of picking up a penny, began a domino effect of extraordinary events.

Weeks later, Matt and I got together to decide on a name for our gym. Nothing we thought of had felt right thus far. We kept circling back to how this business was a ginormous leap of faith for us. Which led us both to thinking about that old rusty penny.

Our vision and hope for our business was that it would be a vessel, a platform for us to not only share our passion for health and fitness but to reveal in others their strength, their tenacity and ultimately their value.

We couldn’t get the penny out of our minds. All Matt had to do was pick it up for his life to be changed.

Then finally we had it, Pick It Up.
Everyone who walks through our doors comes in with a different story. Our hope and our mission is to remind every single person of how powerful, loved and valued they are.

Sometimes it takes ordinary moments, like picking up a penny or working out, for your life to be changed.

I have always been very much a sports guy. Not only have I played a lot of different sports but I’ve also coached quite a few. For about 5 years (through high school and around a year after) I coached football, basketball, volleyball and soccer.
So when I started crossfit 3 years ago, it felt perfect for me, it requires so many different skills and abilities to the point where I felt as though I could spend a lifetime continuing to learn. This is what led me to take my L1 a year ago and will eventually lead me to my L2. I truly enjoy the more analytical side of sports, love to help people get better, and believe there is so much more to them than pure athletic ability.

I enjoy coaching because it gives me great satisfaction knowing our members and clients rely on my knowledge and ability to help keep them fit and healthy! I have always been drawn to sports but have battled being over weight numerous times in life and that is what drew me to fitness to start.
I wanted to learn how to get fit myself and not be an excuse. I have been a trainer/coach since 2002 and have truly been blessed to be able to help people achieve their goals! It doesn’t always seem like a passion because I’m a pretty mello guy but not a day goes by where I’m not reading, researching or trying to get better as a coach and trainer. It truly is my passion!

I’VE BEEN WORKING IN THE FITNESS/ATHLETICS WORLD SINCE 2011. I WORKED AS A COLLEGE BASKETBALL COACH FOR 8 YEARS BEFORE I MOVED INTO MY CURRENT POSITION AS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE FITNESS CENTER AT COLORADO COLLEGE IN EARLY 2019.

WHILE COACHING BASKETBALL, I WORKED AS A STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH, PERSONAL TRAINER, AND GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR AT A VARIETY OF GYMS AND COLLEGES. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COACHING IS SEEING PEOPLE WORK HARD AND IMPROVE EACH WEEK.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE PIU COMMUNITY IS HOW WELCOMING AND KIND EVERYONE IS. STARTING OUT AS A MEMBER WHO WORKED OUT AT PIU, THE COACHES AND EVERYONE IN CLASS MADE ME FEEL COMFORTABLE FROM DAY ONE.
